The main constituent assembly production starts at a Tata facility later this month and the first Indian made C-295 aircraft is expected to roll out from the final assembly line at Vadodara in 2026. Airbus, which has partnered with Tata to produce the aircraft, said that the project will create at least 15,000 highly skilled jobs in India, and an additional 10,000 secondary jobs over the next decade.
This is the first time Airbus has set up a military transport production line outside of Europe with this level of technology transfer and localization of parts and components. Indian companies will manufacture about 14,000 parts for the C-295, which will supply the Indian Air Force and possibly more than 250 aircraft around the world.

■ 2,193.5 billion contracts for 2021, 16 transport aircraft will be built in Spain and 40 in India through technology transfer. Officials said work is underway to set up a final assembly line in Vadodara, which is expected to be operational by the middle of next year.
“This is unprecedented for Airbus. Airbus has not built a complete production line anywhere in the world. This is the most complex move the company is currently working on.”
■ India manufactures a range of aircraft domestically in partnership with foreign technology providers. These include the Su 30MKI fighter, several trainers, and domestic light attack aircraft. However, this is the first time that such a high level of technology transfer has taken place in the production of large aircraft of the 9–10-ton class.
Nearly 96% of Airbus’ current aircraft manufacturing work in Spain will take place at the Vadodara plant when it goes into service late next year. Airbus, which employs more than 2,750 people in India, also relies heavily on India to expand and jointly develop its military systems.
